To celebrate the opening of Chungbuk Gallery, the First Vice Minister Jeon Byung-geuk of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mayor of Jongno-gu Jung Mun-heon, former Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ryu Jin-ryeong, President Lee Beom-heon of the Federation of Artistic & Cultural Organization of Korea, President Kim Gyung-sik of the Federation of Artistic & Cultural Organization of Korea Chungbuk Branch, President Park Mun-hyun of the Korean Fine Arts Association in Chungcheongbuk-do, and President Kim Sung-sim of the Korean People's Artists Association of Chungcheongbuk-do attended along with other prominent names in culture and arts as well as the bereaved families of the deceased artists who took part in the opening exhibition. Soraya Ahn, daughter-in-law of artist Ahn Seung-gak and wife of artist Ahn Young-il, returned from the United States for the opening event.

Governor Kim Young-hwan gave opening speech, follwed by congratulatory addresses from noteworthy guests, the unveiling of a signboard, and the tape cutting ceremony. After the event, attendees appreciated the opening exhibition by taking their time.

The opening exhibition titled “PRELUDE to Arts in Chungbuk ― Eternal Resonance” comprises around 50 pieces by eight deceased artists who declared the beginning of modern and contemporary art in Chungcheongbuk-do. It was meant to serve as an occasion to herald the beginning of Arts in Chungbuk, which is expanding beyond regions focused on Korean art via the works of senior artists who have devoted their lives to arts.

Chungbuk Gallery aspires to play several roles while fulfilling its initial objective of introducing local artists in Seoul. It plans to offer exceptional and varied works of Chungcheongbuk-do via regular and special exhibits, as well as to continue supporting local artists by leasing exhibition spaces to them through public contest, in order to promote the brand value of Chungcheongbuk-do.

Meanwhile, a signboard for the Chungbuk Gallery was unveiled at the opening event. The signboard was designed by graphic designer Ahn Sang-soo and produced by ceramicist Lee Jong-seong, a Chungcheongbuk-do intangible cultural asset. To reflect the inspirations collected for a new beginning, consonants and vowels are blended into distinct tiles of the signboard, motivated by cheonghwa baekja. The two artists displayed their love for Chungcheongbuk-do by taking part in the production as a donation of talent.

“Chungbuk Gallery is a venue that offers stable exhibition opportunities to local artists as well as numerous exhibitions that promote the Chungcheongbuk-do brand. We ask for more interest and support to make it a site where many people from outside the region may see the past, present, and future,” said Chungcheongbuk-do Governor Kim Young-hwan.
