Chungcheongbuk-do Province Works Hard to Allay Residents’ Anxiety Over Accommodation of Special Contributors from Afghanistan
- Continuing to reinforce safety measures for residents in partnership with related institutions including the National Intelligence Service - Chungcheongbuk-do Province is doing its best to relieve anxiety, as well as solve inconveniences and uneasiness among residents regarding the accommodation of special contributors from Afghanistan in the province by preparing safety measures in firm partnership with related institutions, including the National Intelligence Service. On August 26, Chungcheongbuk-do Province held a meeting with residents of Jincheon and Eumseong before accepting Afghan contributors in order to listen to any recommendations and concerns, making efforts in every direction to calm the residents’ anxiety. In particular, Chungcheongbuk-do Province is maintaining a cooperative system with the branch of the National Intelligence Service and the Chungbuk Provincial Police to get rid of anxiety over risk factors, such as terrors or surprise demonstrations. It is also continuing to reinforce safety measures for residents by operating a police simulation room in the National Human Resources Development Institute (NHI), using more military police forces, and strengthening police patrol. In addition, together with the National Intelligence Service and related government agencies, Chungcheongbuk-do Province plans to do its best to control the situation to prevent the safety of residents from being threatened by regularly inspecting major multi-purpose facilities that can be targets of terrors and stores that sell items that may be used for acts of terror. In order to provide transparent information related to special contributors from Afghanistan, the Ministry of Justice, Chungcheongbuk-do Province, Jincheon, Eumseong, and related institutions are operating a cooperative system in case of emergency. Governor Lee Si-jong of Chungcheongbuk-do Province said, “I am grateful to the residents of Jincheon and Eumseong for taking a humanistic and broad view point in embracing the special contributors from Afghanistan. I will make continuous efforts to partner with related institutions to eliminate any concerns from the residents.” Meanwhile, 391 Afghan special contributors from 79 households have been admitted to the NHI located in Chungbuk Innovation City, and are slated to stay there until the end of October. After completing the fourteen-day quarantine, they are now participating in a program that helps them adjust to Korean society by learning the Korean language, Korean culture and Korean law. |
