On the 3rd, Chungcheongbuk-do Province held a ‘conference with provincial road safety-related organizations’ at the Chungbuk Research Institute to establish the ‘Fourth Chungcheongbuk-do Road Safety Master Plan’ and gather opinions from related organizations in the province.

The conference aimed to gather various opinions on the rapidly changing traffic environment, such as autonomous driving and the expansion of shared mobility, from traffic-related organizations and explore the possible directions for a more efficient planning.

The conference participants included a collaboration with Chungcheongbuk-do, Chungbuk Provincial Police, Chungcheongbuk-do Office of Education, Road Traffic Authority, The Road Traffic Authority (KoROAD), Cheongju-si, and Chungbuk Research Institute.
The conference was meaningful in that it enhanced the completeness of the plan by sharing the achievements of road safety promotion and gathering opinions on the basic road safety plan.

As a five-year plan (2022-2026) established in accordance with the Road Traffic Act pursuant to the National Transportation Master Plan of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Fourth Chungcheongbuk-do Road Safety Master Plan shall present mid- to long-term comprehensive policy directions to achieve traffic safety that is appropriate to the situation in Chungcheongbuk-do Province.

The main contents of the Road Safety Master Plan include △analysis of the performance of road safety policy implementation, △traffic accident trends and root cause analysis, △sectoral plan for setting traffic safety policy goals and achievements, and △detailed implementation plan and investment plan by year, etc.

Upon deliberation by the Land Infrastructure & Transportation Committee, Chungcheongbuk-do Province is scheduled to finalize the Road Safety Master Plan by mid-November and present key indicators and strategies for traffic safety policy promotion that will serve as the basis for establishing the city and county’s road safety master plan, the primary local government in the province.

Jeong-gi Lee, the director-general of Chungcheongbuk-do Province’s construction, stated, “In order to achieve a synergistic effect, road safety requires harmonious planning and implementation.” He added, “This master plan for road safety is an important plan for securing road safety for residents, and active participation and cooperation of relevant organizations is important since it will be the first step for the five-year plan.”
